| Why Organic Hemp?
Hemp is the oldest cultivated fiber in the world going back 10,000 years to the beginning of pottery making. Hemp fabric is one of the most versatile, long lasting and resilient fabrics. It is the most durable of all the natural fabrics.
Hemp is naturally antibacterial and antifungal making the fabric anti-mildew and anti-mold. It is naturally resistant to UV sunlight, fire and salt water. Hemp is more water absorbent than cotton and very porous in nature similar to bamboo keeping baby cooler in hot weather and warmer in cold weather.
Hemp uses the sun more efficiently than most other plants and grows well naturally in most all climates and soil types. Hemp requires no pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and requires only a small amount of water to grow. It flourishes without the use of pesticides as it is unpalatable to insects and has few natural enemies. It grows very rapidly in a tightly spaced growing pattern; it chokes and outgrows every weed, suppressing their growth thereby precluding the need for herbicides.
The hemp plant comes in many varieties, one of which is the marijuana plant. Industrial hemp, the plant used to make hemp fabric is completely different and safe to use. It does not contain the same drug-inducing properties as the marijuana plant.
Hemp is completely biodegradable and sustainable. |
